Ghajini ( Hindi : गजनी ) is a 2008 Indian psychological thriller film written and directed by A. R. Murugadoss and produced by Tagore Madhu and Madhu Mantena. The Soundtrack and score is by A. R. Rahman . It is a remake of Murugadoss's own 2005 Tamil film Ghajini starring Surya Sivakumar in the lead role. [ 4 ] The film stars Aamir Khan , Asin and Jiah Khan in lead roles while Pradeep Rawat and Riyaz Khan essay supporting roles. The Tamil version of Ghajini was inspired by Christopher Nolan 's Memento . [ 5 ] [ 6 ]
The film explores the life of a richbusinessman who develops anterograde amnesia following a violent encounter in which his love interest, model Kalpana, was killed. He tries to avenge the killing with the aid of Polaroid Instant camera photographs and permanent tattoos on his body. [ 7 ] The character of Aamir Khan also featured in a 3D video game titled Ghajini - The Game , which isbased on the movie. [ 8 ] Ghajini iscurrently the seventh highest grossing Bollywood film according to worldwide gross collections. On release it became the highest grossing movie of all time until it was beaten by another Aamir Khan movie 3 idiots in the following year. Ghajini also holds the notable distinction of being the first movie to break the 100 crore ( US$ 18.9 million) barrier in Indian cinema. [ 9 ] Ghajini’s paid preview collections were 7 crore worldwide.
